Message from the President
Support and Encouragement
Dear members,
CONFERENCE 2021
Our 2nd virtual convention is less than a month away! I invite you to register now. The conference organizers have put together a great program with international guests. Mike Donnelly is the HSLDA-USA Senior Counsel and Director of Global Outreach which coordinates HSLDA’s support of homeschooling freedom around the world. Canute Waswa from Kenya will share techniques on dealing with government authorities. We will also have Desiree Rehel, a home school graduate, now a university student, and, winner of two awards in physics. Furthermore, we will have workshops with seasoned homeschoolers from Quebec and Canada who will support you and share their experiences with you.
FOLLOW-UP with the DEM
The associations’ representatives had a meeting with the DEM on March 9th. We had the opportunity to talk about the struggles that some families are having with the enforcement of the new requirements. We also insisted on the consequences of the pandemic, such as the lack of activities among the support groups, thus affecting the children’s learning both academically and socially. We trust that the well-intentioned leaders of the DEM will adapt their requirements to the individual circumstances of the families.
I was pleased to meet with our support group leaders on Friday, March 19. I invite you to attend your support group meetings. If you are not part of a support group, I strongly encourage you to join one (https://acpeq.org/en/my-account/support-groups/). This will benefit you personally, and enable you to learn about some of the things that affect the association. To stay up to date on events and resources for members, don’t forget to visit the Members’ Area of our website: https://acpeq.org/en/my-account/
Competency-based LEARNING!
It is indeed the educational view exclusively favoured by the DEM to comply with the QEP. I am aware of this recent and rather definitive position taken by the DEM. We have recently contacted a doctor of education, a specialist in competency-based education, to support you in your homeschooling and to better understand the ins and outs of this view. We hope to “equip” our members for the next school year and make it easier to prepare the LPs and assessment reports.
New SCIENTIFIC STUDY in Quebec
Dr. Christine Brabant, Associate Professor in the Department of Administration and Foundations of Education, Faculty of Education, Université de Montréal, is seeking our collaboration to draw a current portrait of Quebec homeschooling. The questionnaires will be available in May. We encourage as many of you as possible to participate.
Now that we have just celebrated the most important Christian holiday, the resurrection of Jesus, let us remember his Love for us and the example of laying down our lives for one another to glorify him day after day. Allow me to share with you the following passage from the Gospel of John 15, verses 15 to 17:
‘No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing;
but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
These things I command you, so that you will love one another. ‘
