Do you remember your very first steps?

Let’s take a moment to extend a hand

Do you remember your very first steps? I am not talking about your first steps as a baby, but the ones that made you a parent educator. At first you were insecure. You were overwhelmed by a plethora of unanswered questions. Your thoughts were regularly clouded with anxiety. While on one hand you had the firm conviction that homeschooling was the best choice, on the other hand you feared failure and were afraid of holding back your precious children…

If you are a homeschool veteran, you probably sailed past these troubled waters some time ago. Over the years you realised that teaching is somewhat instinctive and found a good cruising speed. However, every year many parent educators embark on the same crossing for the first time and must juggle the same questions, anxieties, and doubts that you once had.

Why not take a moment to reach out to them?

As a seasoned homeschooler, you probably do not realise how much your personal experience can benefit these new parent educators. Some of you may feel that way because you sometimes think that you must be perfect and have the answers to everything to be able to help others. This is not the case. These young parents do not need heroic figures. They only need the benevolent presence of those who have gone before them. They need to see parents, in the flesh, who are as daring and brave as they are, who have taken up the challenge of homeschooling and have been successful. This benefit alone can serve as an anchor that holds firm in the storm. It can give these young parents the courage they need in challenging times.

This year, we warmly invite all veterans to attend the 2021 ACPEQ Conference. We invite you to take a few steps alongside those who have valiantly taken up the torch of education at home to carry it forward to future generations. We encourage you to be a part of this rewarding experience that will allow you to appreciate the richness of your own background, develop your leadership skills, and forge meaningful relationships. Come one and all! We look forward to seeing you there.
